A lot of people will get very angry when they find that their dog has pooped or peed in the house. They yell, and sometimes shove their pup's nose in it and give her a spanking. None of these punishments will help in the least.
Training a dog to be house broken is about management. First off, you need to make sure that your dog doesn't have full run of your home. They should be confined to a small area or a crate. The space must allow your dog to stand up, turn around and lay down, stretched out. Nothing more, nothing less. In this space, they will eat, drink and sleep. A fenced off area in the kitchen might be good. In addition, never let your dog roam the house alone when you are home. Always keep her tethered to your side with a leash. This will aid her in not having an accident. Whenever you can't keep your full attention on your pooch, put her in her confined area or crate. Next, there should be a very, comprehensive bathroom break schedule, especially for puppies. Your pup should be taken out several times each day. Early morning, mid morning, late morning, midday, late afternoon, early evening, mid evening and before bed time. NO KIDDING. Adult dogs should only need to go outside 4 times each day. Take your pup's food and water away at least one hour before bedtime. You should have a specific bathroom break spot outdoors. This is where you will take her to eliminate. Whenever she pees or poops in this spot, praise her abundantly and give her a generous reward like a big chunk of cheese. Keep this spot clean. In other words, pick up her poop. If your puppy has an accident indoors, do not scold or punish her, just take her to her spot outdoors and praise her. When cleaning up the mess, indoors, use only, Nature's Miracle. This product is wonderful and it does not contain ammonia. The odor of ammonia is similar to the odor of urine. When your pup smells it, she will think it is a good spot to pee. In most cases, when you follow these instructions to the word, and minimize her chances of having an accident indoors, your puppy or dog will be house trained within 10 days.
