Imagine this scenerio: Every time the doorbell rings, or someone passes by your garden apartment, bang! Your dog goes off and starts barking like crazy. You yell, you scream, you can't get him to quiet down no matter what. Your neighbors are putting nasty notes on your door and practically snarling at you when you pass them in the hallway. Here are a few tips. Get some really tasty treats and give your pooch one so she knows what you have for her. Now, say "speak!". Wait a couple seconds and say "speak!" again. Soon, your dog should bark. As soon as she does, exclaim, "good girl!" and give her a treat. Say "speak!" again and repeat until she barks. Whenever she barks when you say "speak!", give her a treat and exclaim, "good girl!" Now, when she barks, repeat "speak!" again and try to get her to bark more than once. Keep repeating the process until you can get your girl to bark over and over again. Keep exclaiming, "good girl!" while giving her treats. Practice this for a couple days so that whenever you say "speak!", she barks alot.
Now, get your girl to start barking when you say "speak!" and then clap your hands loudly or stomp your foot on the floor and exclaim "quiet!" at the same time. Your dog should stop barking for a second. Immediately exclaim, "good girl!" and give her a treat. Repeat this and practice as much as you can daily until she barks when you say "speak!" and stops barking when you say "quiet!".
Now you should be able to control her barking. When your girl barks when you don't want her too, just exclaim, "quiet!" Be sure to always reward her with "good girl!" and a treat.
